ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), February 9, 2007 - Young, enthusiastic artists and their friends gathered Friday night, February 9, at the Jefferson Underground to enjoy the first night of the NueVue Show at the Art Coop, which ran through February 11.

The multi-media exhibit featured photography, oil paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, hand-painted Mardi Gras jackets and purple cowboy boots, furniture pieces and painted glass windows. Subjects included dreamy landscapes, rock musicians, Indians, St. Louis attractions, floral, nudes, buildings and pets. Techno music echoed throughout the gallery as many artists shared their concepts with other art enthusiasts.

Photographer Aunia Kahn, wearing all black, layers of handmade necklaces, a shocking pink sash and leather boots trimmed in pink, delighted in explaining her work. Kahn said she uses a tripod to capture herself in various costumes against fantasy backgrounds created from her photographs of places in St. Louis.

"I spend a majority of my time continuing my mostly self-taught artistic endeavors and maintaining and growing in skills." She said that her work is expressive and draws from pure emotion and from personal experiences. A self-taught artist and student at SWIC, Kahn's work has garnered numerous awards.
